April 12th Collection Update: Because of the incredible and generous response from the community, the Mayor’s Office has stopped collecting clothing and items for the 4/8 fire victims. They now ask that donation efforts be concentrated upon gift cards for the children impacted by the fire. Gift cards to retailers like Target, Toys R Us, or ShopRite can still be dropped off to Coach Alex Lalaoui at 180 9th Street, Jersey City, NJ (across from the Newport Mall) at the hours noted below.
On Sunday, April 9th, a fast-moving fire roared through a block on Claremont Avenue in Jersey City. By the end of the day, ten homes were destroyed and 52 people, including 25 children, had lost everything.
The Jersey City Mayor’s Office, the U.S. Soccer Heroes and The Soccer Learning Center are all coordinating efforts to help collect donations for the 25 children that have been impacted by this fire. The children, ranging in age from infants to teenagers, need clothing, school supplies, new toys and more. We will be collecting these items during the entire week of April 9th at our soccer academy site located at 180 9th Street in downtown Jersey City (across from the Newport Mall). Donations will be delivered to the Mayor’s Office at City Hall where officials will coordinate the distribution to the families in need.
Donations of children’s clothes, shoes, school supplies, and new toys will be collected at these times:
Monday 4/9: 6pm to 10pm
Tuesday 4/10: 3pm to 6pm
Thursday 4/12: 3pm to 6pm/8pm to 11pm
Saturday 4/14: 9am to 2pm
Sunday 4/15: 9am to 1pm
Please look for the donation boxes in front of the gym vestibule. We are currently seeking these clothing items in the following sizes (this list will be updated as we get more donation requests from impacted families – thank you to the Jersey City Mayor’s Action Bureau for coordinating this effort and supplying us with the following information):

In addition to these donations, we are also raffling two spots in our full day soccer summer camp on Ebay. These spots are valued at $900 each. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the families in need. Please visit and bid on our auctions here and here.
