Impact

The United States Soccer Heroes is committed to providing support to our local first responders during times of need.  Since its inception, our all-volunteer organization has reached out to show our local heroes how much they mean to our community.

Here is a snapshot of some of our impact projects:

DiNardo Family Cup

When JCPD detective Marc DiNardo was killed in the line of duty in 2009, Coach Alex organized a fundraising tournament to help bolster the scholarship fund for DiNardo’s young children.

More than 100 soccer players on eight teams comprised of Hudson County police, fire and correction officers met on the pitch at Giants Stadium and played four simultaneous matches on the pitch.

Kicks for Kenneth

Hudson County Corrections Officer Lillian Whitted was just days away from having her electric service cut off for late payment while she cared for her critically ill infant son who was born with a catastrophic genetic illness.  Hearing the story from other HCDOC officers, Coach Alex stepped in to help.

A soccer tournament fundraiser was held at Saint Peter’s University and helped raise emergency funding for Officer Whitted at her family’s greatest time of need.

Hurricane Sandy Relief

The U.S. Soccer Heroes was there to help in the devastating wake of Hurricane Sandy.  Coach Alex put together a pair of Monday night pickup games with 100% of the proceeds donated to local relief efforts.

Erika Coy Family Fundraising Tournament

With the cooperation of a team of dedicated Hudson County corrections officers and first responders, the USSH raised more than $17,000 for the husband and young children of HCDOC officer Erika Coy who tragically lost her courageous battle with kidney cancer at the age of 39.

Zacarias M. Toro, Jr. Memorial Soccer Tournament

The USSH was honored to team up with the U.S. Marshals to honor Deputy Marshal Zacarias M. Toro, Jr. a fallen fellow officer who died at the age of 50 from health issues connected to his work during the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York City.  A tournament in his honor was held in Jersey City to raise funds that were presented to his family.

NYRB Event Ticket Donations

Each year, the USSH provides free tickets to New York Red Bull matches to schools and other community organizations.  There is nothing more rewarding for us than to see a young soccer enthusiast enjoying their first professional soccer match at the NYRB stadium.

NYRB Community Cup

Each year, the USSH hosts two local teams – one comprised of local first responders and one comprised of civilians – to play as part of an MLS double header match at the New York Red Bull stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.  The Community Cup is one our best attended events of the year and helps raise essential funding for our organization.
