Under a gorgeous June sky this past Sunday, six dedicated law enforcement and first responder teams met on the pitch at Jersey City’s Ed “Fa” Ford Field to battle it out at the 5th Annual US. Soccer Heroes Tournament in Jersey City. At the end of the day, two of the top teams remained and met at the final – last year’s champs – N.J. Strikers South; and the 2013 U.S. Police & Fire Game Champs – N.J. Guns and Hoses. Winning in a decisive match, the N.J. Guns and Hoses team brought home another championship cup plus the grand prize of $2000.00, sponsored by N.J. State Auto in Jersey City.
Honored guest, Assemblyman Anthony Romano, presented the championship cup and runner-up cup to the team captains. Coach Alex Lalaoui made a special announcement during the event that moving forward, the popular annual tournament will be dedicated in the name of Romano’s father, Anthony “Rocky” Romano, a former Hoboken Police Department captain.
A special thanks to the Port Authority Police Department Honor Guard and Pipes who put on an exceptional opening ceremony presentation.
